Freedom from Hunger - Stray Dogs of Nicaragua (Peta Kaplan) - Canvas

Ribs showing through white fur, this stray turns its head back over its shoulder and holds your eye. It is the look of an animal that has learned to watch the world and expects nothing from it. The title says plainly what the painting asks for.

An original oil painting by Peta Kaplan, from a series painted during the five years she and Ben made their home in the colonial city of Granada, Nicaragua.

The streets were full of strays. She didn't only paint them; she cared for them, volunteering at the local clinic and serving on an emergency response team for animals that were hurt or abandoned. Each dog is met as an individual.

Part of the Green Global Trek collection — Stray Dogs of Nicaragua.
