Shah-i-Zinda Domes, Samarkand, Uzbekistan — Silk Road Travel Photography Canvas
Two turquoise domes rise over Shah-i-Zinda, the avenue of mausoleums that has drawn pilgrims to Samarkand for eight hundred years. Their ribbed shells sit on drums banded with Kufic script and glazed tilework, the blue reading almost liquid against a moving sky.
The name means "the Living King" — and on a street of tombs, the colour is anything but funereal: it is the boldest turquoise the Silk Road ever fired.
