Teddy in the Dark — Stray Dogs of Nicaragua (Peta Kaplan)
Scruffy and square-on against a wall of near-black green, Teddy plants his feet and meets your eye directly — unpolished, unguarded, entirely present.
Teddy was a tiny dog with an enormous personality. He had a girlfriend, another stray. When a visitor to Nicaragua picked her up off the street — believing she was doing something kind — Teddy ran after the taxi as fast as he could. He never recovered.
An original oil painting by Peta Kaplan, from a series painted during the five years she and Ben made their home in the colonial city of Granada, Nicaragua.
The streets were full of strays, and Peta didn't only paint them — she cared for them, volunteering at the local clinic and serving on an emergency response team for animals that were wounded or abandoned.
Printed on gallery-wrapped canvas with mirrored edges, ready to hang. Part of the Green Global Trek collection — Stray Dogs of Nicaragua, painted on location in Granada.
