Teddy in the Dark — Stray Dogs of Nicaragua (Peta Kaplan) — Framed Poster (Premium Matte)
A small scruffy dog stands square-on in near-blackness, tan and white fur catching what little light there is, ears set at odds with each other. Nothing about him is grand — he simply holds his ground and looks straight back.
Teddy was a tiny dog with an enormous personality. He had a girlfriend, another stray. When a visitor to Nicaragua picked her up off the street — believing she was doing something kind — Teddy ran after the taxi as fast as he could. He never recovered and remained sad until he died.
An original oil painting by Peta Kaplan, from a series painted during the five years she and her partner, Ben, made their home in the colonial city of Granada, Nicaragua.
The streets were full of strays, and Peta didn't only paint them — she cared for them, volunteering at the local clinic and serving on an emergency response team for animals that were wounded or abandoned.
Part of the Green Global Trek collection — Stray Dogs of Nicaragua, painted on location in Granada.
