Stray Dogs of Nicaragua: Look, Learn, Draw, Care is a 66-page workbook for children aged 8 to 15, built around 24 oil paintings of street dogs by Peta Kaplan.
Children learn the Five Freedoms, the five things every animal needs, and eight simple clues for reading a dog: ears, eyes, head, tail, body shape, legs, lying down, and skin and coat. Then they meet every dog. Each one gets two pages: the painting on the left, and on the right an outline to trace or color, a line to give the dog a name, questions that use the clues, and a Five Freedoms check.
For home or the classroom. A pencil and some colored pencils are all a child needs.
